Sewing My Own Gear

I’ve been sewing since I can remember. My mother and grandmother taught me. I can remember some of the outfits I made (striped bell bottom pants for fourth grade! halter top and shorts for the summer between fifth and sixth grade!). In my 20s, 30s, and 40s, I quilted. Now I’m hooked on making functional pieces like bags and outdoor gear.

For our walk on the West Highland Way, I made several items for our kits. All are made of waterproof or water resistant fabrics and zippers except the drawstring bags and the packable market bag. All of the fabric and hardware are from Ripstop by the Roll except the RFID fabric, and all are from kits they sell except the market bag (reverse engineered by me from a bag a friend gifted me) and the passport wallet which I designed. It took several attempts to get the passport wallet right and I am wicked proud of it.
