Digital Sheet Music Collections

The following collections contain digitized sheet music. mostly from the late 19th and early 20th century. If you know of other digital collections, please let me know in the comment section below and I’ll add it. And if there’s a broken link, let me know.

This list represents a fraction of the sheet music collections housed in libraries around the country. In addition to those listed here, there are collections with electronic catalogs but no digitized images, collections with only a physical card catalog (yes, the old-fashioned physical drawers filled with cards!), and collections with no cataloging at all.

Many of these collections expose their metadata to the Sheet Music Consortium, meaning you can search across the participating collections rather than visiting each one individually.

  1. This song was first published in an Evangelical Lutheran Sunday School collection, Little Children’s Book for Schools and Families (1885). Some people think that it was written by Martin Luther, but research has shown that this is nothing more than a fable. No matter what the story, it is a nice tune. Try it out!

  2. Donna Schaffer says:

Thank you so much for this collection of music. I have started my own file of such sites, but I have nowhere near as many as you have shared with us. Thank you again for your hard work. Donna
